In addition to golf lessons and heading to the range. I have a couple other tips:
-The golf swing is one of the most difficult and explosive movements in all sport- so it is very important to have been doing strength training and flexibility work prior to getting into golf. Thousands of new golf'ers hurt themselves every year because they have poor swing mechanics- which is expected- but also poor strength and flexiblity- which compounds things.
- Always warmup before golf. Creat a little routine which will prepare body and mind.
-When you head to the range, do not try and hit alot of balls at first. SWING the club- perfect your form and swing- and do not worry about "hitting" the ball. Many people hurt themselves at the range initially!
- Let the club do the work. Swing gently with attention to fluid movement and follow through. New golfer's often try and swing too hard ( and too often!) which again, can cause injuries to the back, shoulders and elbows.
- If you do get injured- ice ice ice!
- There are many good trainers which specialize in golf fitness- and I do specialize in it as well- so feel free to email questions!
