The Fear Factor of Today – It’s a wonder we survived!

Published by Pat Mullaly at 12:07 pm under Inspirational

The following is a message that has been circulating around the net for a while. Sent to me by a good friend, I thought it worth passing on here. Cudos to the unknown author.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends—from one bottle! and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren’t overweight because, we were always outside playing. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were OK.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD’s, no surround-sound or CD’s, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms—WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t, had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?

There are some shipping companies, that make inspection of the car and make condition reports by themselves. Beware, not all the time it happens – I had one issue with a shipper for some scratches done to the car during transportation. I wish I bought better insurance.

In the awesome pattern of things you actually receive an A+ with regard to effort. Exactly where you actually lost me personally was first on your facts. As people say, details make or break the argument.. And it could not be much more true in this article. Having said that, let me inform you what exactly did give good results. Your article (parts of it) is definitely pretty persuasive and this is possibly the reason why I am taking the effort to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, although I can easily see the jumps in logic you come up with, I am definitely not sure of how you appear to unite your details which inturn make the final result. For right now I shall yield to your position but wish in the near future you actually link the facts better.

Thank you for charing your story with us, Nick. It’s interesting how we don’t realise how some events affect us, and how they affect some people more than the other. For a long time I perceived my situation as normal and attributed it to my characteristic traits, not realising that there was actually a possibility to change the way I feel. Even though I was a relatively quiet child, I was often too stubborn not to do something due to my anxiety or I just didn’t want to disappoint my parents and engaged in activities such as public performing at school events after which I always felt awful. Thanks again, Nick, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of your story.

Hurray!! It is really shaping up, Kate. I love the new front door, and you all really rocked that front entry. Two thumbs up!!! I can’t get a good enough view of the TV, but I was wondering if they have access to a VCR? We have some duplicate Disney VHS movies (the cartoon kind) and I’d like to send them out along with the children’s books we round up. Just wondering if that would be something you think the kids might like to have around. I think this is a wonderful project to get involved in. My younger sister just started making her own headbands to sell to raise money for the military version of the Ronald McDonald House. Makes me realize I need to get more involved!

Hats off for a job well done.

Can we please stop saying the emails were hacked?! There is no proof they were hacked. .Except what the CRU says, which is funny because we know they’ll say anything to further the scam that is AGW, but we’ll take them at their word that they were hacked? Further, in other data dumps like the mediadefender email leak, the ENTIRE contents of an email inbox were dumped. .In the case or the CRU emails and data it was sanitized. Where are the emails about salary reviews, or weekend plans, or love letters to wives or mistresses? Where is the mundane cruft like multiple “thanks” replies or funny pics, or chain emails we all get? Hackers revel in showing the world exactly how much access they have to private data and love the embarrassment it causes. “All your base are ours” Additionally as I have read through the HARRY_READ_ME it is all too apparent that even Harry didn’t know where everything was yet the “hackers” could find all the relevant data? I doubt it. How about some whistle-blower ASSEMBLED the data and emails and released it, or inadvertently left it on a public CRU FTP?

That’s when we knew he was going to share some really good stories that were for our ears only.

I mainly use Opera browser and regard a number of websites are tough to grasp thanks to a incautious range of colors used. Yet, here, as the range of colors is good, the design is highly tidy and enjoyable to comprehend. I don’t know whether it was a premeditated and intended undertaking, or just the ‘luck of the draw’, but I nonetheless thank you.

Those that couldn’t make it were definitely in our thoughts, and I, myself enjoyed the events enough for three people, at least. .The music was incredible, the performances were amazing, add to that, the fact that I was blessed enough to be a part of it all, and I am still in awe. .So, THANK YOU guys for letting us be there, and sharing the experience with us, Willow.

Howdy! I know this is kinda off topic however , I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest authoring a blog post or vice-versa? My site discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I feel we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Terrific blog by the way!

Love cereal. Raisin Bran, Raisin Bran Crunch, Rice Krispies, Frosted Flakes, Corn Pops, Weetabix, Shredded Wheat, Alpen, Corn Flakes, Raisin Bran Extra, Honey Nut Crunch… there’s normally half a dozen of some of those in the larder at any time. I try to eat a bowl every day. How can anyone not like cereal?!

thank you for finding my ‘kat’,.. been looking everywhere for her for years now…the problem as you can see is the she has no ‘ears’ so she can’t hear me when I call…the only way I have been able to find her in the past is when she falls over cause she can’t get back up (which incidentally is why she had to give up drinking).

I din’t really read this article. Just kinda did a quick look. Seems interesting, but I’m doing some research on this guy “Burt Goldman”, and his quantum jumping. It got me to thinking about star trek. I’m trying to think of a word, that is at the tip of my tongue, but it has to do with the brain, and its used for when the enterprise goes into warp drive. Sometimes this “Blank” goes off-line, in star trek ,and they need to set the connection back up.

There are actually a number of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great level to carry up. I supply the thoughts above as basic inspiration however clearly there are questions like the one you convey up where the most important factor might be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around issues like that, but I’m positive that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game. Both girls and boys feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.
