Thinking of Priesthood as your next midlife career? If you’re a woman, you better think again!!!
The Church of the Future and the Feminine Face/Experience of God: Vatican Censure, as reported on May 30th in the press. (Read the Press Release on our Spirit Page.)
Reported to midlifejourney.com by Christine Phoenix Green.
This is a very disturbing mandate…what about the situations of sexual scandal in the Church by male priests???? ( Really, not the norm, but a very by-now-familiar scenario), which only in recent years has been dealt with honestly and appropriately and did not, I believe, demand excommunication, but merely a reshuffling and re-location at worst, and eventual re-habilitation at best.
Is the desire of certain women to SERVE in the political/spiritual capacity as Celebrants, Guides, Counselors and Leaders in the Catholic/Christian establishment so grievious a misdemenour (“sin?”) as to incur the swift and exact penalty of “excommunication?” I have a simple solution.
Of course, women can’t be priests…”priests” is a masculine form. What about the path of the Priestess, which is older than patriarchal religions and yet just might be the healing balm necessary to bring the necessary balance to a form of religious community that has been too long suffering with the one-sided masculine domination and control of the teachings and message of Jesus. He was very much one to honor, and depend ON the participation, spiritual gifts, financial support, hospitality and wisdom of Women.
Imagine a parish being led by a team of Priest and Priestess, or one or the other, equally. Please read this one of many press releases published on May 31, 2008 in regards to this issue.

There is no longer…male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3: 28). We’re all one in Christ.
Although I am not a christian I did take this issue up with others on the Blog Catalog forum. It’s astonishing that in this day and age christians would choose to be bound by doctrine. Also considering the history of the RC church it’s utterly appalling that this kind of misguided thinking still prevails.
