Finding Your Purpose
Author: Pat Mullaly
Everyone wants to believe that the life they lead has a purpose— a meaning, a reason for being. Some are lucky enough to discover this purpose early in life, and they dedicate their days, clearly focused on the one thing they are convinced they are to do in this world.
Years ago I attended a Bonnie Raitt concert. At one point during her performance, the famous singer chatted with the audience, and she told us how happy she was at that very moment, singing on stage, doing what she had always wanted to do. She explained that her purpose in life had become clear to her at the tender age of 12. She wanted to be a performer. And that was that.
I envy her for the focus of her life. It has not always been easy. I know a woman who managed the hotel where Bonnie stayed when she was on tour near Boston. Wild parties and all nighters were common. The hotel was not fancy and it appeared the singer was often just getting by. But she had a dream and she stayed with it. Made it happen.
Recently, Oprah Winfrey has been sponsoring a new online video workshop with the writer Ekhart Tolle. Together they discuss his book A New Earth. This best-selling book focuses on this very subject: finding your purpose in life.
It’s worth a look. Sign up and download the workshop here.
